Liam hummed along to the music, his foot tapping a steady rhythm against the polished floor. He’d just finished a delicious plate of mini quiches and was feeling pleasantly full, the wine adding a rosy glow to his cheeks. He chatted amiably with a group of friends, discussing everything from the latest movies to the ridiculousness of his brother's dance moves. He felt…grounded. Comfortable.

The world seemed to spin lazily around him, the bright lights of the reception shimmering playfully. He found himself smiling more than usual, his laughter easy and natural.

A shadow fell across him, and he looked up. Sarah. He had to physically restrain himself from recoiling. His easy smile disappeared, replaced by a polite, almost frozen expression. He nodded a greeting, suddenly aware of every crease in his linen suit.
